Arabica coffee beans are said to come from Ethiopia. Arabic coffee is thought to be the very first coffee bean to be cultivated for coffee use in the entire world. An interesting note is that this type of coffee has less caffeine than all other types of coffee on the market.
- Coffee arabica has a 7 year growing process to grow fully
- The coffee bean grows inside a bright red berry, inside each berry there are two seeds or coffee beans
- berries are edible
- grows on best on elevations of 1,300 - 1,500 m altitude
- an average Arabic coffee plant can produce roughly 0.5-5 kg of Arabica coffee
- can be found growing in the following countries, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Yemen, Jamaica, Hawaii and Brazil.
- Arabica coffees were named after shipping ports such as Mocha and Java, hence the names Cafe Mocha and Java coffee
As there is a limited supply of Arabica coffee, a substitute came along called Robusta, that is found in many popular instant coffees that you purchase at your local grocery store. Some of the names you might recognize include, Folgers and Maxwell House.
