Where do Kona coffee beans come from? These gourmet coffee beans are grown on the island of Hawaii on the slopes of Hualalai in the Kona District. Samuel Reverend Ruggles is credited in bringing the first coffee plant to the Kona region. The coffee plant was brought over from Brazil, and has prospered ever since. The original farmers of Kona coffee were of Japanese descent, now the coffee market has grown and has many other nationalities from Portuguese, Filipino and more, that have established their own companies.
Pure Kona coffee is quite rare so in order to make Kona accessible to everyone you can purchase Kona blends. Organic Kona blends are a mixture of Kona and Columbian or Brazilian coffees. This is misleading since only about 10% of the coffee in Hawaiian Kona blends is actually derived from Kona.
