Before I go into how to clean your espresso machine, I suggest that you clean it daily by scrubbing the machine down with a damp cloth to remove any coffee, coffee grounds , milk froth etc that is stuck to your machine. This is basic common sense.
You should clean your machine, after each use. Using a damp cloth clean the nozzle on the milk wand, remove all the crusted over milk by releasing steam through the nozzle. The filter basket should also be cleaned after every use. Throw out the coffee grind that is in your filter basket or use in your garden, it works great for flowers! Rinse out the filter basket and let it dry.
In order to really clean an espresso machine, you should use a cleaning tablet or powder. This step should be done weekly.
Every 4 months you will need to descale the espresso machine, this step gets rid your machine of limescale from pipes, valves, and the boiler. A way to help keep your machine from attracting limescale is to use filtered water. The harder the water is the more often you will need to descale your machine.
For the best possible cleaning results follow cleaning directions outlined in your espresso machine manual.
